Socially Active through Social Activity, I have a great job, a great wusband, a great life…these are my stories
On my trip to Denver this week, I found myself attending two non-profit informational events. This is code for “dazzle you and get your time and your money”. I usually fall for them in some way. I’ll get something from the silent auction, I’ll buy raffle tickets, I’ll pledge $50. What I usually do not do is offer my time.
For those of you that have read my blog in the last couple of weeks, you know I am beginning to volunteer again. This is where the soul of my soul-cialite comes out. I must pledge time to the causes that I connect to most deeply.
I have now pledged my time to 5 different organizations, non-profits plus my work as a commissioner on the Denver Women’s Commission. We are in the midst of planning our own capital campaign for Fire Hawk Alliance, my non-profit. Plus planning the year of fundraising events we’ll be producing.
For some, this kind of commitment would seem daunting. For me, it is just the kind of schedule I need in order to get things in my for profit business on track. You know what they say, “if you want something done, give it to a busy person”.
So, when I start looking at my commitments, I just light my fireworks and open myself up for what’s to come!
You ever get the feeling like things are about to burst open and rain sparkly light all over your world? That’s how I feel too!
