Socially Active through Social Activity, I have a great job, a great wusband, a great life…these are my stories
Last weekend was one of the best weekends I’ve had since we pulled our lives apart and planted them in two places last year. I had the massive realization that I was rearranging my life yet again to get exactly what I said I wanted about 2 and a half years ago. At the time, someone pointed out to me that the life I talked about living would take a great deal of money that I did not have. I said that I didn’t really worry about that. It’s knowing the what I want that’s important, not the how to get it.
Flash forward to this weekend. I met some incredible women at the NCLR Anniversary events in San Francisco. I reconnected with people I had previously met and connected with some women that I wholeheartedly believe will be truly important in my life. The best part is, it was by faith that it all happened.
I knew back in January that my wusband and I were going to attend this event. It is with blessings by many that we were able to make that happen. I was once again inspired by the honorees and renewed my admiration for this organization and its leadership, with particular emphasis on the inspiring Executive Director Kate Kendell.
My wusband and I had a marvelous time. Life also offered us challenges in different ways this weekend. We came through it stronger as a couple and with a more purposeful step toward the future that we see for our lives.
The event even included my newest crush, California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom presenting the 2013 Founder’s Award to NCLR Legal Director Shannon Price Minter. Not only was the 20 years of service Minter has offered to NCLR inspiring, when it is presented by someone that been such an incredible ally of the LGBT community you are lifted off the ground with the knowledge that people really are striving to help our lives be better.
I am truly getting everything I asked for, maybe not the way I originally pictured it. Then again, I never claimed to be clairvoyant. So, does that make me spoiled or blessed? I know that the answer is blessed. I have some incredible people in my life. I love them all very much. You, dear readers, will come to know them too because I believe in the good that they create in the world. Having them bless my life feels like I’m spoiled because knowing them is simply incredible!
Count your blessings Darlings and consider yourself spoiled. Look around you, I bet you can find some inspiration and some wonderful people blessing your life today.
Ciao for now!
